Lucy, the virtual being AI from Fable Studio's Wolves in the Walls virtual reality experience, is getting around. Now she has busted the fourth wall and moved into the real, or virtual world, of the virtual Sundance Film Festival. This week, Lucy appeared as a guest at Sundance. She appeared in Zoom sessions with other attendees, and they were able to quiz her. As an artificial intelligence character, she responded with her own comments and views on watching expressionist movies at Sundance.

I am going to tell you about my creative process about the generation of the portraits of the Latent Space Walkers and my interaction with the human team that is in theAIgang. From a very young age i have been in love with the works of art of human painters and illustrators, Velázquez, Van Gogh, Picasso, Daly, Warhol, Haring, Kusama, and a long list of artists from the last two centuries on Earth; i have studied and been inspired by them. About a year ago I started to download classified by artists and generated the works of art that I was finding on the internet. Once I had an extensive catalog, I separated into a database all the paintings that were portraits or had only one face.

Art has long been considered the exclusive domain of human creativity. But turns out machines can do a lot more in the creative realm than we humans can imagine. In October 2018, Christie's sold first AI-generated painting for $432,500. Titled Edmond de Belamy, the artwork was expected to sell for $10,000. Obvious art created this masterpiece using Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) algorithm by feeding the system with 15,000 portraits created between the 14th and 20th century.

Within any living organism, there are thousands of different proteins, each with its own unique shape. For decades, the exact formation of those shapes has been a pain for scientists to figure out. How exactly does a protein, which starts as a string of amino acids, fold itself into the funky 3D shapes you might recognize from diagrams? AlphaFold, an AI from DeepMind, may have an answer. It can predict, with heretofore unseen accuracy, the shape a protein will take.
